I would like to narrate the story of the DAV movement particularly in the eastern region. You will be glad to know that, Late N. D. Grover, a staunch follower of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati and Mahatma Gandhi was a legendary and visionary person who was on his mission of establishing educational institutions to the region where people were deprived of quality education. He is known as the Father of DAV Schools of the whole eastern region as he had turned the DAV Movement into a revolution and established more than 200 institutions in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, UP, MP, Chhattisgarh and Orissa within a very small span of time i.e. only in 25 years. It was his vision that he established schools even in Naxalite areas as he knew well that Naxal problems could be resolved forever by educating people only.
DAV PUBLIC SCHOOL, MOONIDIH is one of the schools of the educational revolution made by Late N. D. Grover, the then Regional Director, DAV Public Schools, Ranchi Zone. This school was established in the year 1984 in collaboration with Coal India Limited in order to provide quality education to the children of the BCCL employees and the people of the locality as well. It was undoubtedly a very honest and sincere effort of the then, Personnel Manager, Mr. V. R. Joshi, Moonidih Project, General Manager, Mr. A. K. Sahay, Moonidih Project and, Chief Managing Director, Mr. C. S. Jha, BCCL Koyla Bhawan who personally took utmost interest and also met the then, Regional Director, Late N. D. Grover to open a school to impart quality education to the children of the BCCL employees. The school, at the initial stage, started to function at CISF Camp at Baludih where Nehru Shatabdi Girls High School is running. The school started functioning with 350 students and 13 staff from STD LKG to STD VII. Since its establishment, it started to flourish in every respect in catering the needs of the students and also the school got full cooperation of the then, BCCL Authorities in setting up a new building in the year 1988. The school got shifted from the old CISF Camp Baludih to the newly constructed building in the year 1988. The school got affiliated to CBSE upto STD X in the year 1987 and the first batch of the same appeared for the board exam in the year 1988.The school got affiliated to CBSE upto STD XII (Arts, Science and Commerce) in the year 1992. The first batch of AISSCE (+2) Arts and Science appeared from this school in the session 1991-1992 and 1993-1994 respectively. The present strength of the school is nearly 2700 from LKG to STD XII with four and five sections in almost all the classes. The school has the Study Centre for NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) specially to facilitate the study of the students who failed to continue with their studies due to one reason or the other. Since the establishment of the school, we haven’t looked back rather we are scaling a new height every year in scholastic and non scholastic areas.
